Stainless steel pipe manufacturers actively practice green concepts. On the one hand, we optimize the production process, adopt advanced equipment and technology, and reduce energy consumption and pollutant emissions. For example, we use an efficient waste heat recovery system to use waste heat from the production process to preheat raw materials or other processes, thereby reducing energy waste. On the other hand, we increase the recycling rate of stainless steel waste and use advanced smelting technology to re-refine the recycled stainless steel waste into high-quality stainless steel pipes, which not only saves resources but also reduces production costs, in line with the global trend of sustainable development.
In the grand landscape of modern industry and life, stainless steel pipes are like a solid "backbone", supporting the operation of many fields with their excellent performance. From skyscrapers in bustling cities to sophisticated medical equipment, from high-temperature and high-pressure chemical equipment to water supply systems that ensure people's livelihood, stainless steel pipes are everywhere, with unique advantages and irreplaceable value.
1. Diverse classification, each showing its strengths
Classification by organizational structure
Austenitic stainless steel pipe: the most common, typical representatives such as 304 and 316 stainless steel pipes. Its internal atomic arrangement is a face-centered cubic structure, which gives the material excellent corrosion resistance, good welding performance and excellent toughness. 304 stainless steel pipe contains more than 18% chromium and more than 8% nickel. In the field of food processing, it is used to make food delivery pipelines and containers to ensure food hygiene and safety, because it is not easy to rust and has a smooth surface, and will not contaminate food; in terms of architectural decoration, it is often used as curtain wall frames and railings, which are beautiful and durable, and can still maintain a bright appearance after wind and rain. On this basis, 316 stainless steel pipe adds 2%-3% molybdenum element, and its corrosion resistance is further improved, especially in chloride ion environment, making it an ideal material for marine engineering and chemical equipment, such as offshore oil platform pipelines, which can resist long-term erosion by seawater.
Ferritic stainless steel pipe: represented by 430 stainless steel pipe, the crystal structure is body-centered cubic, and the chromium content is generally 11%-30%. The corrosion resistance is slightly inferior to austenitic stainless steel pipe, but the price is affordable and it is magnetic. It is often used in general building structures, such as simple indoor brackets; in the field of home appliances, it is used as an internal support component of refrigerators and washing machines to meet basic strength and durability requirements.
Martensitic stainless steel pipe: such as 410 stainless steel pipe, can be strengthened by quenching and tempering, with high hardness and strength, but relatively weak corrosion resistance. It is often used to manufacture mechanical parts, such as valve tappets in automobile engines, which need to withstand high pressure and friction. The high hardness of martensitic stainless steel pipes after heat treatment can meet this requirement; in the field of tool manufacturing, it can create sharp and durable blades.
Duplex stainless steel pipe: cleverly combines the advantages of austenite and ferrite structures, with high strength and good corrosion resistance. 2205 duplex stainless steel pipe contains 22% chromium, 5% nickel, and 3% molybdenum. The yield strength is twice that of ordinary austenitic stainless steel pipe. It is widely used in petrochemical, papermaking and other industries. For example, the stirring shaft in the chemical reactor must withstand the mechanical stress of material stirring and resist chemical medium corrosion. Duplex stainless steel pipe can cope with it excellently.
Classification by production process
Seamless stainless steel pipe: made by perforated hot rolling, cold rolling or cold drawing process, the pipe wall is seamless, ensuring the overall continuity and uniformity of the material. It has excellent mechanical properties and can withstand high pressure. It is often used for high-pressure fluid transportation, such as natural gas long-distance pipelines and hydraulic system pipelines; in the field of aerospace, it manufactures aircraft fuel transportation pipelines to ensure safe and stable fuel transportation in complex high-altitude environments.
Welded stainless steel pipe: made of steel plates or steel strips, and divided into straight seam welded pipes and spiral welded pipes according to the form of welds. Straight seam welded pipes have high production efficiency and low cost, and are suitable for low-pressure fluid transportation, such as building water supply and drainage pipes; spiral welded pipes have good tensile strength because of the spiral distribution of welds, and are often used in large-diameter pipes, such as urban water supply and gas supply trunk pipes, with a diameter of several meters, to ensure the normal operation of urban infrastructure and livelihood facilities.
2. Excellent performance, casting advantages
Corrosion resistance - no fear of erosion, long-term protection
The high alloying characteristics of stainless steel pipes are the source of corrosion resistance. Taking chromium as an example, when the chromium content reaches 10.5% or more, in the air or oxidizing medium, a dense and solid chromium-rich oxide film (passivation film) is quickly formed on the surface of the steel pipe. The thickness is only a few nanometers, but it is like an indestructible "armor" that isolates the metal matrix from the external corrosive medium. Whether it is the corrosion of strong acids (such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid) and strong alkalis (such as sodium hydroxide) in chemical production, or the corrosion of complex chemical components in crude oil and natural gas in oil extraction and transportation, or the acid and alkali detergents and body fluids frequently contacted in food processing and medical industries, stainless steel pipes can effectively resist with this passivation film, greatly extending the service life and reducing maintenance and replacement costs. For example, in coastal buildings, stainless steel pipes are used as structural components, which can withstand long-term erosion of high-salt and humid air carried by sea breezes and stand for decades; in chemical companies, reactor pipelines made of stainless steel pipes can operate stably for a long time in highly corrosive media to ensure production continuity.
Mechanical properties - both rigidity and flexibility, bearing heavy responsibilities
High strength: Different types of stainless steel pipes have their own strengths. Although austenitic stainless steel pipes are known for their toughness, their strength should not be underestimated. The tensile strength of 304 stainless steel pipes can reach more than 520MPa, and they can withstand large tensile forces; martensitic and duplex stainless steel pipes are even stronger, such as 2205 duplex stainless steel pipes with a yield strength of ≥450MPa and a tensile strength of ≥620MPa, which can work stably under high pressure and heavy load conditions. In building structures, stainless steel pipes are used as load-bearing beams and columns to support the huge bodies of skyscrapers; in bridge construction, they are used for the main load-bearing structure to ensure that the bridge is safe and stable under the long-term heavy pressure of vehicles and pedestrians and the environment.
Good toughness and ductility: Austenitic stainless steel pipes perform well in this regard. For example, the elongation of 304 stainless steel pipes can reach more than 40%, and they can withstand large deformation without breaking. This feature allows them to be made into various complex shapes through cold bending, stamping and other processes during processing to meet the diverse needs of different fields. In automobile manufacturing, it is used to manufacture exhaust pipes and body structural parts, which can absorb energy during collisions and ensure the safety of drivers and passengers; in furniture design, it can be bent into elegant and smooth shapes, which are both beautiful and practical.
High temperature resistance - high temperature quenching, stable as usual
The stable chemical composition and organizational structure of stainless steel pipes give it excellent high temperature resistance. Under high temperature environment, the stability of its surface oxide film is enhanced, effectively preventing further oxidation and corrosion. For example, 310S stainless steel pipes (25Cr-20Ni) can reach a maximum operating temperature of 1200℃, and are often used in industrial furnace pipes and heat treatment equipment. They are subjected to high temperature gas erosion in high temperature furnaces for a long time, maintaining stable shape and performance, ensuring efficient heat transfer and normal process; in the power industry, as boiler superheater and reheater pipes, they operate reliably in high temperature and high pressure steam environments to ensure stable power supply of power generation equipment.
Hygiene and aesthetics - clean and beautiful, both inside and outside
Hygiene: The surface of stainless steel pipes is smooth and flat, with a roughness Ra of less than 0.8μm, and it is difficult for bacteria and dirt to adhere and grow. The material itself is non-toxic and tasteless, does not release harmful substances, and meets strict hygiene standards, such as the 3A standard for the food industry and the ISO standard for the medical industry. In food and beverage production, it is used for liquid delivery pipelines such as milk and juice to ensure that the product is not contaminated throughout the process and ensure food safety; in the medical field, it is used to make surgical instruments and hospital water and gas supply pipelines to maintain a sterile environment and prevent cross infection.
Aesthetics: After surface treatment such as polishing and brushing, the stainless steel pipe presents an elegant metallic luster and texture, which can meet different aesthetic needs. In architectural decoration, as indoor handrails, railings, and hotel lobby decorative columns, it shows a modern and fashionable atmosphere; in high-end household items, such as stainless steel kitchen sinks and bathroom hardware, it is not only practical, but also enhances the overall beauty of the space.
3. Innovation-driven, expand the future
Technology innovation improves product performance
Scientists and enterprises continue to explore new processes. In the production of seamless pipes, the use of advanced hot extrusion technology, combined with precise temperature control and mold design, can further refine the grains and improve the strength and toughness of steel pipes; in the manufacture of welded pipes, new welding technologies such as laser welding and stir friction welding are developed to improve the quality of welds, the strength is close to that of the parent material, and welding deformation is reduced, and the application range of welded pipes is expanded, such as for the manufacture of high-precision and high-strength aviation parts.
Functional compounding meets multiple needs
To adapt to complex working conditions, functional compound stainless steel pipes are developed. For example, nano-antibacterial coating is applied on the surface to improve the antibacterial performance of stainless steel pipes, which are already hygienic, and are used in hospitals, food processing workshops and other places with extremely high antibacterial requirements; in marine engineering, stainless steel pipes with both seawater corrosion resistance and anti-biological fouling functions are developed. By adding special alloy elements or surface treatment, marine organisms are prevented from attaching and growing, reducing pipeline resistance and corrosion risks, and extending service life.
